Take Control of Your Laundry
Laundry Tips for Busy Moms
Laundry!! The word makes me shutter! Piles and piles and piles of clothes everywhere! I’d have to say that doing the laundry is my least favorite thing to do around my house. Yes, even more than cleaning the showers!
Washing it and throwing into the dryer: no big deal.
Folding and putting it away: BOOO!!!
**Big thumbs down!**
How do I stay up on the laundry with 4 kids and homeschooling?? It has taken a while for me to come up with the best way to keep the laundry at bay. I have tried TONS of “tricks”… but I have finally found something that works.
Laundry is never going to be a fun thing to do. If I could hire someone to do my laundry… I would in a heartbeat!
So, busy momma, I have
3 quick laundry tips to help you keep up on that beastly pile (or piles).
Tip #1 Make a set laundry day.
Take one day per week to wash, dry, fold, and put away ALL laundry… Or at least as much as you can. Laundry multiplies at my house…It comes out of nowhere .. Seriously amazes me. It will be SO worth it. I promise. I was really opposed to this, but I gave it a go, and it actually works for us. Now that I have gotten caught up on all of my laundry, this day is super simple and easy.
The day you choose is completely up to you, but I like to do it all on Monday. Why? Because it gives us a fresh start for the week. Having all laundry done and put away on Monday just makes me feel better. Like I have more control over the chaos!
Tip #2 Do at least 1 load of laundry per day.
Just wash and dry and fold. Honestly… I don’t always fold my laundry if it is not laundry day. I only fold it if I think it will get super wrinkly because I do not like to iron. (Ironing is probably a tie with the laundry as my least favorite thing to do.) Even though you have a designated laundry day, keeping up by doing one load a day will make life so much easier! It will also make laundry day easier because you will have less loads to wash, and will mainly be putting things away.
I like to do my 1 load first thing in the morning. I wash all the clothes from the day before.
Quick tip: If you don’t have enough laundry for a load, take advantage and wash sheets, curtains, or small rugs.
Tip #3 Get rid of some clothes!
Yep… you heard me! Clear out those closets…. keep what you actually wear. If you are like me, that is only a select few things. I do this for my kids too. I keep a certain number of T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, button downs, jeans, pjs, etc. The only thing I do not limit is the amount of underwear and socks that they have. Consider a capsule wardrobe for your whole family….or even a modified one.
I am working on a capsule wardrobe for myself, I haven’t made it there yet so I like to consider mine a “modified” capsule wardrobe. If I don’t wear something for a few months in a row, then I toss it. No matter how pretty it is. If it isn’t something I wear, I get rid of it. A smaller wardrobe of clothes that you love will make it easier for you to pick out clothes to wear daily. And it will reduce the feeling of, “I have nothing to wear!”

And… that’s all! Seems super simple and easy, but it is effective! Go ahead, and give it a go, and see how it works for you.
