What is your child’s learning style??
We all have a specific style of learning. Have you ever noticed that some people can learn a great deal from listening to an audio tape, while others retain nothing? Or those guys that need to watch something happen in order to grasp it? (yeah.. that one is totally me)
What are the different learning styles?
There are 3 different learning styles: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic.
Visual learners need to see it. They process information much better when there are good visuals involved.
Auditory learners need to hear it. When they hear information… it sticks.
Kinesthetic learners need to do it. They learn best when they can get their hands on a project or if it involves physical activity.
Why are learning styles important?
When we are homeschooling, we tend to lean toward our own learning style when picking out curriculum. For example, for me, I am a visual learner. So … I may be more attracted to a video style learning or something with awesome pictures and visuals for my kids. It’s great for my son, who is also a visual learner, but it probably won’t benefit my other children who are not visual learners. So it is much more beneficial to buy something that is tailored toward my child’s specific learning style.
Knowing a child’s learning style can help us pick out curriculum that will help them learn and understand materials better. One of the beauties of homeschooling is getting to tailor our child’s learning experience! As homeschoolers, we have options. We do not have to stick with one certain curriculum. We can choose what works best for our children. Choosing things that complement their learning style will help them become more confident in their learning too!
How do I find out my child’s learning style?
