Looking for gifts for 12 year old boys? Check out this list of 11 creative gift ideas! I’ve spent hours scouring the internet for gift ideas for my 12-year-old, and I keep getting the same things over and over… video games or anything related to video games.
My boys love a good video game. What kid doesn’t?? However, they also have other interests. So, I decided to create this list of gift ideas for 12-year-old boys that doesn’t just list of all things video gaming.

11 Creative Gifts for 12 year old Boys: What do 12 year old boys like?
Here’s some things my preteen is interested in:
- Survival Skills
- Video Games
- Board Games/Card Games
- All things outdoors
That’s just a basic list of things he loves to do. I’m sure I could list off a few more things, but… you get the idea.
Not all boys are going to be into the same things.
I have a nephew (11) who likes most of these things, but he leans more towards video games, nerf guns, and legos.
The best place to start when picking out a gift for your preteen is to make a list of their interests. Interview them if you have to. They like to talk about what interests them.
Creating a Wish List
This year for Christmas we created wish lists on Amazon & I’ve done all of my Christmas shopping online. (We did this for birthdays, too.)
It’s super easy to create a wish list and to share it with family and friends. Also, the wish list will give you some great ideas of what your child likes or wants.
These gifts are some of the things that were on my son’s wish list, plus some.
11 Creative Gifts for 12 year old Boys
1. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
So… I had to include at least one video game. It’s the only game on my son’s list this year. He had the first Spiderman game for PS4 & he beat it, so naturally… he wants this one.
2. Cards that Make You LOL
My son is a jokester. He loves all things that make him laugh. So, of course, this one was on his Christmas wish list this year.
3. Survival Kit
A survival kit is a great idea for a boy that is into survival skills. (We own this particular set & I would recommend it to anyone!)
Note: This kit contains a pocket knife. If you’re uncomfortable with your 12-year-old having one, this may not be the gift for you.
4. STEM Building Toys for Kids 2-in-1 Remote Control Race Car Building
Got an engineer? This STEM kit lets your child build their own remote control car.
5. Razor RipStik Caster Board
All of my older kids have RipStik & love it. They are a bit of a challenge to learn, but really fun.
6. Portable Basketball Hoop & Goal Basketball System
We got one of these last year for Christmas. It wasn’t this exact one… it was a cheaper one. It worked, but it was missing parts from the get-go and was kind of flimsy.
Our neighbors ended up giving us theirs (They have 2 grown sons and weren’t using it). So, we replaced the cheaper one. That’s why I chose a little more expensive set for this post. It’s worth it to pay the extra money in my opinion. You get what you pay for.
7. Fishing Accessories Kit
My son is obsessed with fishing. This kit was high up on his wishlist for his birthday & Christmas this year.
8. Throw Throw Burrito
This is a super fun and hilarious board game for the family.
9. LEGO BrickHeadz Star Wars The Mandalorian & The Child
My nephew was beyond excited to get this for his birthday this year. Who doesn’t love Baby Yoda and the Mandalorian???
10. NERF Fortnite BASR-L Bolt Action
My boys have been asking for the Fortnite Nerf gun “with the scope.” They love to have Nerf wars.
11. Duck Commander Duck Call
My 12-year-old just got into hunting last year. I know he’d love to get this for Christmas or his birthday.
