The Importance of Prayer in your Homeschool
Prayer in your homeschool is vital! As a new year approaches, I have been thinking about my goals. What do I want to accomplish this year?? What changes can I make?
As I look back over the year, I can see what we’ve accomplished. And I can also see all the places we went wrong. I have had a rough go this year. Homeschooling with a toddler is hard work!
There were excellent days, and of course, those terrible days that I dare not speak of. (They were more abundant than I want to admit!) However, there was something that pulled me through. Something that salvaged a year that started out so rocky. What was it?? Prayer.
The Importance of Prayer in Your Homeschool
About 8 weeks into my school year, I realized some things were not working. I felt like something was missing. So, in a desperate attempt to make it right, I changed things up. I was so sure that this switch was the answer to my problems. Well.. it wasn’t.
It actually made things worse!
My school days were lasting all day. My children were actually in tears most days during their lessons, and I was so stressed. I would go to my room and cry most evenings after my husband got home because I was feeling so overwhelmed. I kept saying: “I just can’t do this anymore!”
It didn’t take me long to realize that something had to give. So, I did the only thing that I knew to do. I prayed. Every day and every night. I prayed that God would help me to teach my children…and to guide my steps as a homeschool mother. And, it wasn’t long before God answered!
I have always had a strong pull towards Charlotte Mason’s methods… and I have used them loosely in my homeschool for several years. But, I felt an urging to go back and read her books once more. So, I did.

What did I find?
I found exactly what I needed. I was reminded of all the reasons that I love homeschooling. So, I slowly started to implement more Charlotte Mason in our home. We stripped our curriculum down and pushed the pre-made lesson plans to the side. We pulled out some excellent quality literature, and purged our bookshelves of “twaddle”. ( As Charlotte Mason would put it.)
The End Result
School has been running smoothly, days are much shorter, and everyone is much happier. We actually have time for more subjects now! It’s crazy! I give all the credit to God. He hears our cries, and no matter how small the problem, he can fix it.
God has called you to do this wonderful thing! Homeschooling! He wants you to succeed. Sometimes he just wants us to ask before he steps in. We have to hand him the reigns.
